Stripology 101 - Lil' Trixi Pattern - August



Stripology 101 – Class Description

The Stripology Ruler set was specifically created for cutting fabric strips quickly and accurately. It has markings on it that allow you to cut strips of fabric in different widths without having to move the ruler or measure each time.  Many quilters say that it decreases their cutting time significantly – up to 75% faster than traditional methods. 

In this class we will;
         Demonstrate how to use the Stripology Rulers by Creative Grids
         Learn how to utilize the companion tools including the ruler stickers
         Discuss how to ‘tame your stash’ we will discuss scrap management and how to make the most out of fabric
         Practice concepts and tools by sewing the lil Trixie table runner

You will need the following:

 

  •          Lil Trixie pattern (included with class registration fee)
  •          Stripology squared mini ruler
  •          Fabric requirements:

 

o   Two - Charm packs – we will use 24 assorted dark 5 inch squares and 24 assorted light 5 inch squares.  If you use charm packs you will have fabric left over.  Do not use best press/starch on your charm pack squares as it n// may shrink.

 

o   OR Fabric from your stash to cut five-inch squares in class (roughly ½ yard of assorted dark fabrics and ½ yard of assorted light fabrics)

 

o   Accent and binding – ½ yard

 

  •          Stripology ruler stickers
  •          Pen and paper for taking notes.
  •          General Sewing Supplies:
  •          Sewing Machine fresh needle and your plug and foot pedal
  •          Cutting Matt & Rotary cutter
  •          Ruler (I use a 12 1/2 X 6 1/2)
  •          Seam Ripper
  •          Scissors
  •          Thread

 

Optional Materials:

 

  •          Stripology Mixology 2 book – this book has instructions for Trixie as a full size quilt
  •          Stripology XL or other Stripology rulers
  •          Feel free to bring fabric from your stash to practice cutting



 


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Confident Beginner - You should have general rotary cutting and piecing experience with a comfort level to sew an accurate ¼ inch seam.
Requirements: Student will need a working sewing machine and familiarity with ¼ inch seams
Instructor Bio: Mary Rhodes is from Lee's Summit, MO. She has been married to Doug for 34 years and they have two grown children, Megan and Clayton. In addition to being an avid photographer and volunteer for various animal charities, Mary runs a project management group by day. Mary has taken multiple year-long classes focused on rulers and accurate piecing. She has completed Tucker University, Grids Girls 1 & 2 (Creative Grids), and has gained proficiency with other rulers such as those through Sew Kind of Wonderful.
