Beginner Series Ahoy - October

This design incorporates traditional quilt blocks arranged in a way that evokes the imagery of sails, waves, and the horizon, offering endless possibilities for fabric choices. Whether you choose a nautical-themed fabric collection with anchors and stripes or prefer to mix and match vibrant colors and patterns, the Ahoy quilt is sure to bring a sense of adventure and energy to your quilting projects.  You’ll leave this class with a completed quilt top that’s ready to be quilted and bound.

What You Will Learn:

  • Fabric Selection: A focal fabric is used in this quilt.  The pattern provides a nice way to use a "fussy cut" fabric.
  • Block Construction: Step-by-step instruction on flip corners and piecing the large blocks, ensuring perfect alignment and crisp seams.
  • Layout and Design: Learn about 'secondary' designs as you piece the blocks together in rows.
  • Finishing Techniques: Guidance on adding borders, quilting, and binding to complete your quilt.

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

The Ahoy (48" x 64") quilt pattern is an exciting and approachable project that allows quilters to experiment with color and design while building confidence in their skills. She has been married to Gene for 36 years and together they have 5 children and 8 grandchildren. Sharon started sewing at the age of nine (9) and did mostly garment making until eight (8) years ago. She decided to take a class at Community College on T-shirt quilts because she had always wanted to make one. Shortly after the class, Sharon started sewing with a ladies church quilt group. While looking for the pattern for the next year’s quilt, she found a quilt pattern that she thought would be perfect for her granddaughter’s 10th birthday present. After making it, she was hooked! Sharon enjoys trying new things and passing her knowledge and experience along to others. She is a gadget person and will try new gadgets so there is more sewing time and less mechanics time. Sharon also enjoys knitting, crocheting, decorating and travel.
