I’m most at home living a simple, quiet life. So when we pulled in for a family vacation that summer to a small cabin on a working farm with prairie land all around us, I knew we were in for a treat. My creative senses become even more awakened when I’m out of my usual space & routine and I took note of the fresh eggs and flowers that greeted us as our boys scurried off to a loft to claim beds. Nothing but a dirt road, land, animals, wildflowers, and a couple other cabins were our neighbors for the next few days. It’s a wonderful thing to be away from home and yet to be welcomed into a space that feels so perfectly cozy. Dawn on the Prairie came out of the memories of that sweet family trip, where we were greeted every day with sunrises streaming in to the little cabin, hiking amongst grasses, picking wildflowers and simply being together.
